Hartford HealthCare Medical Group is one of the largest medical practices in New England with multiple locations throughout Connecticut and Rhode Island. We consist of a team of professionals ranging from Medical Assistants to Physician Assistants and everything in between. Our physician led medical group enjoys an excellent reputation with patients and the medical community, offering primary care, urgent care and more than 30 different specialties.
Referral Coordinator is responsible for new patient referrals being sent to the Digestive Health Center internally and externally. Patients will be contacted and scheduled according to their location preferences and digestive health needs. Schedules will be reviewed daily to review for openings to get patients from the waiting list or reschedule list scheduled sooner in order to ensure providers have a full schedule. Each referral will be reviewed for completeness, ensure the referral meets the Digestive Health Center guidelines for an appointment. Coordinator must properly communicate with front desk staff, providers, and managers in each office. Referral coordinators frequently interact with patients, doctors, and insurance companies. Coordinator will be expected to have experience with customer service tasks and the ability to maintain patient records and confidentiality, manage multiple schedules, and ensure that patient information is complete and up to date. Referral coordinator will be expected to complete prior authorizations when required by insurance companies.
The Referral Coordinator will also cover for Medical Assistants and be able to room patients as needed. These coverage duties will include:
- Assists with treatments ordered by physician as supervised by physician or registered nurse. Performs select clinical duties.
- Responsible for performing such duties as phlebotomy, patient scheduling, EKG’s, collection of specimens, taking vital signs and assisting physicians or other providers under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse.
Diploma from an accredited Medical Assistant program and/or Medical Assistant Certification required (CMA,CCMA, RMA ). (An active CNA, EMT, Paramedic or Medic Certification may also be considered)
Minimum of 1 year as a medical receptionist or previous care coordination experience.
1 year experience as Medical Assistnat preferred.
Epic Experience preferred.
Must possess effective communication skills. Competency in basic medical assisting skills. Including, rooming patients, assisting provider with exams, performing hearing tests, answering phones, scheduling appointments and surgeries. Strong working knowledge of medical terminology. Strong computer skills including solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office software. Experience with medical software preferred. Positive, customer-focused approach, with commitment to providing excellent patient care. Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong organization skills and attention to detail
