Austin Health Microbiology Department uses state-of-the-art automation to efficiently deliver high quality results. An exciting opportunity currently exists for an enthusiastic and highly experienced Laboratory Assistant to join the Microbiology Department in a fixed term (12 months) full-time position.

Applicants must be available to participate in weekday, weekend, public holiday shifts (day, evening, overnight) as required. This position requires an appropriately qualified laboratory assistant with laboratory skills and preferably relevant experience in a diagnostic medical microbiology including processing specimens, preparing media and reagents/stains, processing/staining microscopy smears, performing simple laboratory tests and quality control activities. The position also involves managing /ordering consumables, maintaining inventory documentation and preparing glassware and equipment for reuse. Experience with use of various automation (including Kiestra WCA, Bactec FX, Atellica urine analysis) is desirable. To be successful in this role you must demonstrate key responsibilities as outlined in the Position Description, including good communication (written and verbal) skills, capable of working effectively, independently and within a laboratory team.
