Main Ad:

The funeral industry provides one of the most genuinely rewarding career pathways available, and work as a Funeral Director’s Assistant is about much more than you think. Every day has variety and challenge, and you can make a real difference to the families and communities you service.

A funeral is a significant life event which needs to be highly personalised, well organised, and delivered with precision, every single time. A Funeral Director’s Assistant is critical in ensuring that all elements are delivered seamlessly on the day.

The Role

  • Act as a shared resource in the provision of funeral services for our families (you will work across multiple brands and your duties will vary from service to service).
  • Play an important role in bringing deceased persons into our care and/or transporting them on the day of their service.
  • Carry out a range of preparatory duties ahead of funeral services, including ‘trimming’ coffins/caskets, preparing name plates, washing/stocking vehicles, and carrying out final checks on floral arrangements and other accessories.
  • Play an active role on the day of the funeral service, ensuring that family needs are met, and all components of the arranged service are delivered with precision.
  • Participate as part of a weekend roster to ensure we are always available for our families.

About You

  • You want to make a difference in your community, and you place people at the centre of everything you do.
  • You are known to be detail-focused; you have strong time management skills and thrive under pressure.
  • You are comfortable being around deceased persons.
  • You have a sharp focus on care and service excellence, and pride yourself on going the extra mile, with a “can do” attitude.
  • You actively use self-care strategies in your life to support your health, well-being and resilience.
  • You take pride in your personal appearance and convey a professional image.
  • You keep yourself functionally fit and healthy, ready to tackle the demands of the job.

Our Funeral Director’s Assistants come from a large variety of backgrounds. You might have worked in customer service, administration, or retail, across a range of industries. Applications welcome from all backgrounds.

The safety of our staff and client families is of utmost importance, as we navigate our way through the COVID-19 pandemic. It is therefore an essential requirement that candidates be fully vaccinated or willing to become fully vaccinated prior to commencing employment with us.

Skills Needed

  • Strong time management skills; the ability to manage competing priorities and continually adjust your approach to meet deadlines.
  • Strong customer service skills; the ability to quickly identify customer needs and deliver on those needs.
  • The ability to problem solve and remain flexible.
  • Keen computer skills and comfort with a range of common technology, including mobile phones, tablets, and audio-visual systems.
  • Strong administrative skills; detail-focused with the ability to follow defined processes.
  • You will also need an unrestricted driver’s license, and the ability and/or willingness to drive a range of vehicle types (cars, vans, hearses).
